Marilyn Monroe was an American actress, model, and singer who was born on June 1, 1926 in Los Angeles, California as Norma Jeane Mortenson or Baker. She became a major sex symbol and a pop culture icon, starring in 29 films between 1946 and 1961. She was known for her comedic roles and her winsome embodiment of the Hollywood sex symbol. She also faced personal and professional struggles and her life and death are still controversial and speculative. She died on August 5, 1962 in Los Angeles.
